Explore the creative possibilities Providing extensive manual control for all shooting situations, the 5.1 million pixel Olympus C-55 ZOOM lets ambitious photographers explore their creative instincts. As with its sibling, the C-70 ZOOM, just about every parameter can be adjusted to meet the individual requirements of specific motifs. Users are also offered the convenience of aperture and shutter priority, can store their favourite settings in “My Mode” or select one of the ten predefined scene programmes for complete ease. A bright 1:2.8-4.8, 5x zoom lens (equivalent to 38-190mm) ensures incredible shooting versatility and is enhanced with a 4x digital zoom for combined maximum magnification power of up to 20x. Exposure information is given in real time via the histogram, thereby avoiding unwanted surprises. And for pinpoint focusing accuracy, the C-55 ZOOM features an AF targeting function. Action scenes can be captured too at up to 2.7 frames per second in rapid sequence mode. Moreover, Super Macro shots from as close as 2cm are also possible. Results are viewable on the 5.1cm LCD monitor featuring a calendar as well as slideshow function with various display modes including zoom and fade.
Hi-fidelity images With the C-55 ZOOM, captured images will convince with their breathtaking clarity. A precision 1:2.8-4.8 lens with 5x zoom (38-190mm equivalent), made from high-refraction glass featuring two aspherical elements, faithfully directs light to the 5.1 megapixel sensor for sharp, distortion-free results. Giving even more magnification power, an additional 4x digital zoom is on hand for a total 20x enlargement of distant subjects. Remaining in focus isn’t a problem either. Equipped with a 143-point TTL autofocus system and an AF target function, photographers are assured crisp image capture at all times. The integrated TruePic TURBO image processor further optimises image quality by boosting contrast and colour while also increasing processing speed.
Manual control for photographic freedom Its multitude of manual control options bestow this model with the scope for creativity demanded by ambitious photographers. Besides full manual exposure mode, users can choose between aperture and shutter priority to obtain their desired effects. A histogram function lets exposure information be shown on-screen to assist photo taking. In addition, the C-55 ZOOM offers four “My Mode” folders to store favourite camera settings for instant retrieval. Naturally, automatic shooting is available as well as a range of scene programmes covering many shooting situations including sports, landscape and fireworks. Sports enthusiasts will particularly welcome sequence shooting, allowing action to be captured at up to 2.7 frames per second. And extreme close-up photographers have their needs satisfied with the Super Macro mode where shots from as little as 2cm away are possible. When it comes to movie recording (with sound), the C-55 ZOOM doesn’t skimp either. With digital anti-shake correction, it lends a steady hand to recordings which are limited in length only by the memory card’s capacity.
Comfortable viewing and framing on large LCD Increasingly, photographers are using the LCD monitor not only to view the results, but also for the majority of their framing. The C-55 ZOOM incorporates a generous 5.1cm variety to ensure effortless framing and viewing. Various display modes including zoom and fade enhance slideshow presentations on the LCD monitor and the calendar function even lets the camera be used as a personal photo diary. Furthermore, use of standard, readily available AA-sized (LR6) batteries means users never need to be caught short of power. And due to PictBridge support, PC-free printing on compatible printers such as the Olympus P-10 is trouble-free. Shipped with Olympus Master software, a 16MB xD-Picture Card and set of high-performance alkaline batteries, the attractive Olympus C-55 ZOOM is an ideal choice for all photographers wishing to explore their creative streak. It will be available from March 2005.
