Inspiration

Before I was a photographer, I was a diver.  Disturbed by the rapid destruction of marine environments that I had been witnessing, underwater photography became a channel for me to express my dismay and to bring the plight of these unique and fragile environments to the world at large.

For me, that sums up the purpose of photography. As human beings, we react much more strongly to images than words - by capturing an image that invokes a powerful reaction I feel I am having a much more effective impact on society than if I wrote or spoke about what I saw.  The world is a huge, diverse and amazing place, but it is under threat from issues that we can not always see.  My work is to show the wonder and the threat to its citizens.
