Bård Løken was born in Vadsø, Norway in 1964. His childhood years were mostly spent in nature, either skiing or fishing. When he became interested in photography in 1985 it was natural to take his camera with him when being outdoors. Bård rapidly became eager to take good pictures and the experience came along with photographing. After a few years of amateur photography, he decided to make it his profession. He constantly travels, especially in Norway and Scandinavia. What lies closest to Bårds heart is landscape photography. He works within the boundaries of a photographic tradition with references to Ansel Adams, Minor White and Elliot Porter. To Bård, the originality of the landscape, the quality of light and the personal experience of the motif is a vital factor. He seeks beauty, but works constantly with his own deception of what beauty is. “To seek beauty in nature is an ongoing treasure hunt, with the nature and me both changing”.

“I use the E-3 and the E-30. Both cameras are great companions on excursions, and I’m thankful for the many excellent solutions in the camera system. One of the reasons for choosing Olympus is the lenses. Some of my favorites include: 7-14mm, 14-35mm/2, 50 macro and the 150mm/2. I am confident that these lenses give me the maximum quality now and for coming camera models. The equipment handles outdoors, and it is possible to produce pictures in any type of weather and temperature. To be able to shoot pictures in rainy or snowy weather without having to be concerned about the equipment is a new experience to me.”
