You can trust your system
A magnesium alloy die-cast body was chosen for the Olympus E-1. It enables two vital design goals of the Olympus E-1: strength and a light weight. The Olympus E-1 is not just for studio use. This camera has been constructed to handle tough, external assignments too. Whether in mountains or on a dusty desert road, you can be sure this model won’t let you down. The Olympus E-1 and professional ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses are protected from splashes and dust to ensure reliable operation. |
| The E-300 incorporate an aluminium die-casting chassis and an aluminium cover for stability and the best feeling. For all later models a special fibre reinforced polycarbonate was chosen fort he best stability.

Cleaning Mode |
Of course, if the image sensor ever needs to be cleaned of e.g. really big dust particles like fluff, you can clean the sensor yourself. A special function holds open the shutter and keeps the mirror in the up position, allowing you to reach the sensor easily. You can then blow in air to remove the fluff etc. Please read the manual carefully before starting.
For water and moisture contamination, the Olympus Service Centre provides a professional service.

Pixel Mapping |
Sometimes it occurs that some pixels on the sensor are not working properly. These defective pixels, called hot pixels, can slightly influence the image quality. Usually these are identified because they show a different colour in comparison to the surrounding pixels. Due to the construction method of sensors, it is impossible to completely avoid faulty pixels.
Pixel mapping helps prevent faulty pixels from affecting image quality. When you carry out the pixel mapping option via the menu, the camera checks the functionality of each single pixel. By comparing the response with those of the neighbouring pixels, any defects can be recognised. The location of the faulty pixel is stored in memory and the camera automatically compensates for the missing or incorrect information in subsequent exposures.
The Supersonic Wave Filter is engaged whenever you start the pixel mapping function.
