Shooting conditions:
E-420, ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 70-300mm 1:4.0-5.6 at 300mm,
Aperture Priority Mode, 1/640 sec., F5.6, exposure compensation: +0.3EV, ISO200.

Shooting tips:

  • Open the aperture to the maximum will increase the defocus effect of the background. Hence, the butterfly and the flower will be separated from the background and result in a fantastic illusional photograph
  • Additionally increasing the shutter speed will freeze the motion of the butterfly and a detailed structure of the wing will be visible, which would be impossible to see in real live with your own eyes
  • Use the exposure compensation to adjust the brightness as the subject is slightly bright already
  • Switch the IS on in order to avoid blurred images caused by the super zoom

Shooting tips:

  • You can easily create this dreamy defocusing effect by using an open aperture and placing a subject between you and the flower

Shooting tips:

  • Compose the sinking sun with a faraway subject and the sun itself will appeal to be much bigger
  • As a focus assist function use the MF assist function with the LCD display which magnifies the image up to 10 times
  • Use a tripod in such a dim light situation to avoid blurred images
  • Be patient and wait for the perfect moment of composition when the ship exactly touches the sun
