Olympus’ new voice recorders speak for themselves
The DM-Hi Series: DM-5 and DM-3
Hamburg, June 2010 – Even by Olympus’ high standards, the new professional DM-Hi Series voice recorders are state-of-the-art, combining CD-quality multi-format playback and recording with a host of sophisticated features. Voice Guidance, Voice Command, Text to Speech, Visual Index and DAISY 2.02 make the DM-5 the recorder for discerning users, including the print disabled. Thanks to linear PCM, MP3 and WMA compatibility, both DM-Hi Series models are ideal for anyone who needs crystal-clear sound anytime, anywhere – from business professionals and journalists to photographers and students. Users can enjoy a wide variety of media for work and leisure, including audio recordings, music, audio books and podcasts. The new series matches top media players feature by feature with up to 8GB of flash memory, a microSD slot, versatile recording options, multilingual menus, a large backlit colour display and rechargeable battery. What’s more, the supplied Olympus Sonority file management software is compatible with both PCs and Macs. The DM-5 and DM-3 voice recorders are available from 1 June 2010.
Voice control
The DM-Hi Series’ ergonomic buttons, large colour display and cutting-edge technology guarantee fast, intuitive navigation through files and functions. The DM-5 offers unique voice-guided menus for the print disabled or people who don’t have time to read, for example when they are driving to a business meeting. The Voice Guidance feature can be set to automatically read out vital information like mode, format, file name and file number – and even the contents of .txt text documents. What’s more, Olympus’ voice recognition solution and multilingual menus ensure anyone can search for files or create to-do lists and calendar entries simply by speaking to their recorder. Working closely with organisations like Dyslexia International, Olympus has made the DM-5 the ultimate portable voice recorder for the print disabled, also integrating the DAISY 2.02 standard (Digital Access Information Systems) with features like Key Guidance and Jump By Page. The DM-5 gives users of all reading abilities the potential to access and share written content – at an extremely competitive price.
Audio excellence
The DM-Hi Series ensures users capture everything they need in the best possible audio quality, with no loss of crucial detail. Both models feature top-drawer Olympus audio processing technology for CD-level recording. There is a choice of three popular recording formats, including super-high quality linear PCM, and a variety of recording modes for different acoustic conditions – from an intimate business meeting to a university lecture. For example, Low Cut Filter and Noise Cancel both eliminate distracting background noise like air conditioning and projector fans to highlight the speaker’s voice. When it comes time to play back audio files, Euphony sound enhancement expands the sound space to make the recording more realistic.
Comprehensive file management
The DM-Hi series comes with ample internal flash memory, a microSD card slot to expand memory capacity, and a long-lasting rechargeable lithium-ion battery. This gives users all the space and time they need to capture and store recordings, podcasts, music and audio books, including audible .aa files. The DM-3 can store (but not display) images, while the Visual Index feature on the 8GB DM-5 lets users assign images to specific files so they can browse by photo rather than file name (images are easily transferred to the recorder from a camera via USB cable). The supplied Olympus Sonority software lets users organise, edit, combine, divide and rename files on either a PC or Mac – or subscribe to RSS, podcasts and series updates via the Internet. With the optional Sonority Plus version, they can customise the recorder’s menu, write audio CDs and convert files to MP3.
The 4GB DM-3 and 8GB DM-5 will be available for retail prices of €249 and €299 respectively.
