Bigger and clearer
Ideal for first-time users, VN Series digital note takers simply do the simple things best. Despite their impressive spec, the three new PC models are even easier to use than their top-selling predecessors. The 1.61-inch LCD display is now full-dot and fully 40% larger than on the previous range so it’s easier to read. What’s more, it’s customisable – users can select different font sizes for upper and lower case letters to highlight the text and icons they need to see most.

Cleaner and faster
Five high-end Scene Select modes also make it easier to choose the right audio settings for different acoustic conditions – and make the most of Olympus’ trademark pristine audio quality. For example, ‘Conference‘ turns on the Low Cut Filter to eliminate distracting background noise and highlight the speaker’s voice. To take the work out of writing up recordings, the ‘DNS’ setting improves results when the recorder converts speech to text with Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition (after the relevant file is downloaded to a PC).

All four new VN models record and playback in the high-quality WMA format while the VN-8700PC and VN-8600PC offer the additional flexibility of MP3, the most compatible format for playing back voice files on computers. Files can be divided directly on these top two recorders and – on all three PC models – downloaded quickly and simply via high-speed USB to a PC or Mac, without additional software, for archiving or sharing via e-mail.

Larger and longer
The new VN Series models offer a choice of memory sizes for every purpose and pocket – 1GB on the VN-8500PC, 2GB on the VN-7500 and VN-8600PC, and 4GB on the VN-8700PC. By adjusting quality settings, beginners soon learn to strike the perfect balance between recording time and audio quality, depending on their needs. In LP mode, maximum recording times run from 430 hours on the 1GB VN-8500PC to a huge 1700 hours (that’s 70 days) on the 4GB VN-8700PC. Longer battery life complements the extended recording times as all the PC models now use 30% less energy.

Simpler and smoother
Navigating the VN menu is a breeze. Aside from the larger display, the PC models feature two new menu languages (Chinese and Polish) and new, ergonomically designed buttons with a mat finish that’s more pleasant to touch. A larger, front-spacing speaker delivers better sound quality, too.
Users can save hundreds of recorded files for playback in multiple folders. They can mark important sections of a recording to find them faster and play them back as a segment.

Each PC model comes in a different colour: Black Metallic for the VN-8700PC, Silver for the VN-8600PC and Pearl White for the VN-8500PC. The Olympus VN-7500, VN-8500PC, VN-8600PC and VN-8700PC will be available for retail prices of €44,99, €54,99, €59,99 and €69,99 respectively.
