As an important facet of its corporate outlook, Olympus takes time to promote social objectives.  These include such initiatives as providing childcare on-site for employees in England and Hamburg, a campaign against cancer which involves not only people in the medical fields but also the mass media and the broader public, and the Olympus Europa Foundation “Science for Life”.



Olympus Europa Foundation

Founded as a non-profit organisation in October 1988, the Olympus Europa foundation promotes science and research, preferably in the fields of scientific photography, endoscopic diagnosis and therapy, microscopy, clinical chemistry and children diseases. The founding capital was 1 million Euro and Olympus has so far donated 1.28 Million Euro through the programme.

  • Wilhelminenspital, Vienna: „Biochemistry and Morphocytology of acute bacterial infections and  documentation”, 60,000 Euro
  • University of Udine, Italy: “Telepathological use of  digitalised microscope images”, 46,000 Euro
  • University of Manchester, UK: “Risk factors for Alzheimer’s Syndrome”, 10,000 Euro.
  • University Clinic, Vienna: “Motion and image analysis of patients with facial paralysation”, 30,000 Euro.
  • Hospital Saint-Louis, Paris: “Development of an artificial replacement for the urinary tract”
  • Olympus IT prize (in cooperation with the DAGM): 5,000 Euro grant awarded yearly
