Olympus Europe with supervisory board
The parent company, Olympus Tokyo, resolved that the new board would reside within Olympus Europa Holding GmbH. The supervisory board comprises six members, of which two are employee representatives. Elected as supervisory board chairman at the board’s first sitting on 24.11.2006 was former managing director of Olympus Winter & Ibe GmbH, Dr. Hans-Joachim Winter. Renowned biochemist Prof. Ernst-Guenter Afting was named as his deputy.

Mission and Objectives
“With the decision to establish a supervisory board for Olympus Europe, the top management in Tokyo underscores its intention to expand business in Europe. At the same time, it is also confirmation of its commitment to the European headquarters in Hamburg,” remarked Dr. Hans-Joachim Winter, chairman of the supervisory board, Olympus Europa Holding GmbH. “We see our principal task in maintaining an open dialogue with management and standing by their side in an advisory capacity. In addition, we aim to contribute in the strengthening of the Olympus brand across Europe, so that the company can operate even better in the market. Among other things, our focus includes measures to increase customer satisfaction, as well as more intensive utilisation of the synergies of individual business areas.”

Members of the supervisory board
Dr. Hans-Joachim Winter is a graduate engineer and was managing director of Olympus Winter & Ibe GmbH for 25 years. He has close, extensive contacts across the global Olympus Group.

Prof. Ernst-Guenter Afting entered the commercial sector following a biochemistry professorship at the University of Goettingen and led, among other things, the pharmaceutical division of Hoechst AG. From 1995 to 2005 he was President and CEO of GSF – National Research Center for Environment and Health – one of the biggest federal governmental research centers in Germany.

Dr. Herbert Asschenfeldt has been active as a notary in Hamburg since 1981, and from 1990 until 2002, was a Member of the Board of the Hamburg Chamber of Notaries.

Dr. Joachim Seeler has gathered many years of managerial experience as, among others, CEO of HGA Capital Real Estate and Assets GmbH, a management-board member of HSH N Real Estate AG as well as head of the German Association of Closed-End Funds (VGF).

Bianca Kurt and Manfred Krause were elected onto the supervisory board as employee representatives.
