Read everything about our mission in endoscopy medicine.

Endoscopes are now commonly used to assist in the rapid detection of diseases, their diagnosis and treatment. Together, Olympus and the medical community have made several advances in this area through collaborative R&D efforts between industry and academia.
The doctor’s mission is to provide care for as many patients as possible. Olympus contributes to this mission by developing new technology, maintaining high quality levels through optimal production systems, and by creating the optimal endoscopy environment.
Our endoscopes have complemented the technical skills of thousands of doctors, in both diagnosis and treatment. The history of endoscopes has advanced through technological progress achieved over the years, reflecting the cooperation between Olympus and the medical profession in this field.

By integrating three core factors of Technology, Quality, and Support, Olympus intends to continue to make major advancements in endoscopy medicine. Today, Olympus endoscopes are used by doctors worldwide.
Technology
Healthcare professionals have a high confidence in the dependability and superiority of Olympus endoscopes. This is because Olympus excels in optical engineering, and uses the technology from its digital cameras, microscopes and advanced electronics.
The Olympus environment fosters synergies among diverse technologies that lead to better products. Olympus’s optical technology makes it possible to design aspherical lenses that allow precision enlargement of pathological tissues and the manufacture of lenses as small as 0.03 mm in diameter. Olympus’s digital image processing technology allows high definition display of sites in the body. In addition, image data analysis allows us to see sites that were previously invisible.

Quality
Olympus endoscopes incorporate highly advanced integrated technology. Strict design and functional checks are applied to meet the high quality levels needed for safe and proper operation at the treatment site. Olympus endoscopes are complex instruments consisting of numerous parts. Ultra-precision parts are made in Olympus production plants by cutting-edge machines. When necessary, skilled technicians assemble the parts by hand.

Endoscopes need to be both safe and simple to use and maintain. Olympus applies controls and processes to minimise the possibility of inadvertent infection and the effects of electromagnetic emission. To prevent such emissions from electronic parts of the endoscope, we carry out thorough checks in our electromagnetic measurement chambers. For added safety, Olympus parts can withstand extremely strong disinfectants.

If a malfunction occurs, Olympus is ready with a swift response.
Olympus worldwide service centres have the same rigorous repair standards as our plants to ensure that repaired endoscopes give the same performance as they did when they first left the factory.

Support
Olympus does not just make and sell products; it has a global support system in place, which allows medical teams to safely use endoscopes to their full potential.

To assist doctors in helping as many patients as possible, Olympus sponsors research seminars, and provides other assistance such as medical and training information. Olympus has recently developed the UPD endoscope position detecting system to enhance technical skill by providing valuable information about the colonoscope’s position. In addition, Olympus provides a broad spectrum of support programs to meet users’ technical and educational needs.

The Future
Technology - Quality - and Support are integrated to form Olympus’ collective strength.

For the future, Olympus looks towards developing new diagnostic systems using next generation digital image processing including:

• The world of diagnosis and treatment utilizing diverse optical wavelengths,
• Micro-machine technology operating in the micron order
• And the age of new treatment methods (procedures) made possible by merging
   genetic engineering and conventional technology.

This is just a glimpse of the future … and Olympus developments such as ultra-precision technology using optical micro-machines, electronics, and genome technology will open up the next phase of endoscopy medicine.

Olympus has a long history of responding to the users’ needs on the front lines of medical treatment. The world of medicine changes very rapidly, and we are leading the way to new advances in endoscopes, to meet users’ needs.

Olympus does not just provide innovative new technology; we also offer high quality and effective support systems that enable your medical treatment capabilities to advance to new levels of excellence.
