Colorectal cancer is generally a very slow-growing cancer. Most colon cancers start as colorectal polyps, which are growths inside the colon or rectum that may become cancerous over time. This progress can take up to ten years.

The individual risk of a person is vital for an effective prevention programme. For example, the risk of developing colon cancer increases with age. Therefore most of the cancer patients are older than 50. Aside from these cases, close relatives of a person with colon cancer are more likely to develop this disease themselves while still young.

Colon cancer symptoms are often unobvious at first. At an early stage, you might not have any afflictions. Hence, colon cancer is highly dangerous and a preventive check-up screening is essential. If symptoms are present, they may include blood in the stool, narrower stools, a change in bowel habits or general stomach discomfort.
