Electrokinetic lithotripsy (EKL), is based on a rigid rod, accelerated by the electromagnetic energy. EKL is highly effective for all kinds of stones, regardless of their compostion and localization. The EL27 Combilith incorporates electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EHL) with EKL. EHL probes generate shock waves with a sharply rising amplitude building up a well defined effective area for stone destruction without damaging the surrounding tissue.
