Graphical User Interface
The Multiple ViewPort Manager provides a well-structured, user-definable display for each image as well as the ability to synchronize multiple images. The Navigator enables the user to navigate within the overview image of the ViewPort Manager and thus view the zoomed image segments in the image document. cell^D offers a generous selection of import file formats and various image-annotation options.
Hardware and Experimental Control
The motorised and automated light microscopes of the Olympus IX2 series, BX2 series, AX series and SZX series can be fully operated via cell^D. With the help of these remote functions, experiments are controlled accurately while experimental data are simultaneously collected by the software. The software autofocus routine for the automated Olympus microscopes IX81 and BX61 is a powerful tool for routine work on the microscope and for integration in automated applications. The algorithm used controls the motorised focus drive.
Live image optimisation
The live optimisation of cell^D offers numerous real-time functions during image acquisition.  These include shading correction, histograms, contrast enhancement and live overlays.  A live histogram and the over-exposure indicator make it easier to exploit the entire dynamic range of the cameras without causing blooming or glare in the images.  Image operations such as the online correction of camera artefacts, integration, averaging and automatic focus ensure the best image quality. cell^D includes also an integrated solution for automatic exposure control.

Olympus Camera Control
The Olympus Camera Control (OCC) tool window provides an intuitive and flexible control for all aspects of acquisition – from the Olympus cameras to the software. With OCC you can display and access the controls that you need and store and retrieve your application-specific camera settings.
Simple, clear and precise!

Olympus True Color
Olympus True Colour (OTC) technology gives you the real image – from the specimen through the PC to the monitor. OTC uses internal ICC profiles to govern the relationship between the input colours from the specimen and through the camera, with the output colours from a display device, such as a monitor or printer.

Image Acquisition and Handling
cell^D provides users with fast acquisition of image sequences in b/w or RGB with up to 1000 images per sequence. The sequence can be saved and archived as a movie in the AVI format. With cell^D manual time lapse series can be acquired, animated and visualised. All acquisition series are saved along with all experimental parameters in a multi-dimensional image format. Users no longer have to sort through large numbers of single images. Navigation through e.g. time levels is intuitive and may be animated as well.
Intuitive application control
Thanks to its intuitive user control, the 3.0 Workflow Assistant allows routine documentation and imaging tasks to be accomplished with just a few logical mouse clicks.
The Panorama Function
Many microscope applications require high resolution along with as large a field of view as possible. With the panorama function implemented in cell^D, single images with overlapping edges are acquired and automatic pattern recognition is used to stitch the individual images together into one high resolution image.
Infinite depth of focus
The software acquires images at different focal levels and extracts the sharpest details from each level and then reassembles all the focused image information into one single, crystal-clear image. The specimen surface can be reconstructed in three dimensions and then displayed three dimensionally based on the resulting image and a height map.
One-Dimensional Data
Tools for processing, evaluating and displaying one-dimensional data are provided. Numerous filters are available for preparing these data. The actual graphs can be labeled and displayed with a variety of views. Additional evaluation functions offer advanced data processing options.
Measurements
cell^D features a unique measurement environment suitable for interactive measurement tasks and dimensioning. Measurement results can be presented as graphs or sheets and screened directly with regard to statistics.
Image Visualisation
The SliceViewer is for visualising and animating three-dimensional data within cell^D. This tool provides 3-D visualisation of image stacks. Users can move interactively within the 3-D visualisation and then have the entire process animated from the desired perspective. The single view offers display of both XYZ slices as well the individual component slices.
Report generation
The report generator within cell^D makes creating standards-compliant reports convenient, quick and easy. The report generator supports graphical elements such as images, sheets and diagrams. It also offers easy text input. Placeholders are automatically filled out with the contents of various fields – from the archive or from analytical results. Simply dragging & dropping images, sheets and database content is all that is necessary to generate a report within seconds. To make everything even more convenient, predefined report templates are already available for use.
Archiving
The integrated database of cell^D archives evaluations and/or orders as a single unit. All transactional or order data is managed along with images, spectra, analytical data, reports and associated documents. And this is done in a well-structured, easy-to-navigate and easy-to-access manner. The structure of the database is easy to adapt to suit the respective workflow.
