Clinical and Technical FAQ

Olympus offers a modular ecosystem for advanced endoscopy, ranging from high-definition video processors to specialized endoscopes for gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and enteroscopy. The portfolio is designed to support the entire clinical pathway—from screening and characterization to complex therapeutic interventions—using ergonomic instruments and high-resolution imaging.

OLYSENSE is the dedicated AI-integration from Olympus, focused on computer-aided detection (CADe) and characterization. By utilizing deep-learning algorithms, OLYSENSE assists clinicians in the real-time identification of mucosal changes and polyps. This objective secondary assessment aims to reduce miss rates and standardize diagnostic quality across different operator experience levels.

Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) utilizes specific wavelengths of light to enhance the visual contrast of surface vessels and mucosal morphology. Texture and Color Enhancement Imaging (TXI) complements this by optimizing the appearance of lesions through improved texture, brightness, and color. Together, these technologies facilitate the optical biopsy and the precise demarcation of neoplastic tissue.

The EUS portfolio combines high-performance ultrasound processors with linear and radial echoendoscopes. These systems provide detailed visualization of the gastrointestinal wall layers and adjacent anatomical structures. This enables high precision in EUS-guided Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and Fine Needle Biopsy (FNB) for definitive histological diagnosis.

To ensure patient safety and the longevity of the equipment, Olympus provides a validated reprocessing cycle. This includes automated endoscope reprocessors that adhere to stringent international standards, as well as specialized cleaning chemistry and single-use valves. These solutions minimize cross-contamination risks and optimize the workflow in endoscopy departments with high patient turnover.
