HICURA — The Next Step
A Wide Range for
Laparoscopic Surgery
HICURA is the new generation of laparoscopic hand instruments that follows the HiQ+ line. HICURA was developed to improve the hand instruments’ handling and safety. HICURA is a modular system comprising a wide range of products with different lengths, shafts, handles and jaws to accommodate surgeons’ needs. The three-part design (handle, jaw insert and shaft) enables the individual replacement of worn components. The system contains no spare parts that might get lost, making HICURA a smart solution for every OR.
Furthermore, there’s no need to assemble HICURA instruments in the OR because they can be steam-sterilized (250 mm and 330 mm) in their assembled state.
HICURA is designed with two unique features for optimal tissue manipulation:
The “CAM grasping mechanism,” which enables the gripping force to be distributed uniformly to the tissue. This allows the surgeon to work with fragile tissue and still provides higher grasping forces for firm grasping.
The “SL dissection mechanism,” which is designed for optimized dissection. The instrument’s jaws open to a wider angle, spreading the force laterally, resulting in the optimal dissection of tissue layers and opening of tissue planes.
HICURA is a new generation of laparoscopic hand instruments that offers:
HICURA offers two different handle sizes: size M for small to medium hands, and size L for medium to large hands. HICURA handles are designed to enhance usability and user comfort during laparoscopy. Depending on preferences and the area of application, handles with a ratchet, a ratchet that can be deactivated, or no ratchet are available.
The two dedicated joint mechanisms (CAM and SL) give surgeons adapted tissue control when grasping and dissecting. The CAM mechanism provides higher grasping forces and is therefore designed for firm grasping, whereas the SL mechanism is designed for optimized dissection because the jaws open to a wider angle.

HICURA’s modular system enables an intuitive and easy assembly in just three steps.
Acoustic feedback confirms that the instrument has been correctly assembled.
The new design of the rotation knob allows for the easy and precise rotation of the jaws insert: rotation with low resistance when the jaws are open; retarded rotation when tissue is firmly grasped.
Strong Grasping and Precise Dissection
HICURA bipolar instruments have a special joint design that enables strong grasping and precise dissection, just like their monopolar counterparts. Furthermore, safe and reliable bipolar coagulation is possible, even in challenging situations.
HICURA bipolar instruments thus combine monopolar mechanical characteristics with safe bipolar coagulation.
HICURA bipolar hand instruments are color-coded on the handle and the rotation wheel, and the inserts also have white insulation. This coding system allows for the rapid identification of all the bipolar components.
The bipolar jaws are PFA-insulated, thus reducing the risk of coagulation failures.
The design of HICURA bipolar instruments enables strong grasping and effective coagulation, thereby combining monopolar mechanical strengths with bipolar coagulation.
HICURA shafts are PEEK-insulated in order to provide optimized stability, durability and electrical insulation.
HICURA offers a large variety of modular parts. There are eight different-sized handles, four shafts, and more than forty different jaw inserts, which are available in different lengths.
Depending on the surgeon’s preferences and the procedure being performed, basic instrumentation can be recommended for every area of application.
We recently implemented the UDI direct marking on HICURA shafts and handles.
The UDI (Unique Device Identification) helps to identify medical devices and trace them from manufacturing through distribution to patient use. The system consists of a unique set of article numbers for all manufacturers, called Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs).
The unique device identifier (UDI) is written in human- and machine-readable form. The device can be scanned and traced throughout the entire product life cycle and the entire supply chain, reducing errors by enabling users to identify a device and obtain important information about its characteristics.
General information about the content of the UDI and other information may be found here.
