The TriPort+ requires an incision of just 12–25 mm, allowing most incisions to be made via the umbilicus, and leaving a virtually undetectable scar.
The TriPort+ is a trocar designed to facilitate single-incision surgery, allowing laparoscopic procedures to be carried out via just one incision. It has three 5 mm and one 10 mm instrument ports, allowing for a standardized four-port technique cholecystectomy to be performed.
With only one surgical wound, there are reduced post-operative complications such as bleeding and infections with the TriPort+.
As patients only have to recover from one small incision, they may feel reduced post-operative pain compared with those undergoing standard laparoscopy.
The potential for fewer complications and less post-operative pain mean faster recoveries following procedures with the TriPort+.
Scarless surgery is a step closer with the TriPort+, which is part of Olympus' LESS surgery system. This four-port trocar allows laparoscopic procedures to be performed via single-port access (SPA), including single cholecystectomy. The additional 10 mm port allows for optimised retraction of excised tissue. The TriPort+ requires an incision of just 12–25 mm, and if this is made in the umbilicus, the resulting scar is virtually undetectable. The use of LESS laparoscopy single site surgery may reduce post-operative complications and pain, and may improve patient recovery time.
Three plus one ports
The new design with four instrument ports (including one of 10 mm, reducible to 5 mm) allows the surgeon to conduct standard four-instrument cholecystectomy as single-port surgery.
The instrument ports are fitted with new, extra-tight, duck-bill valves, allowing the surgeon to conduct procedures smoothly. Two insufflation/venting valves are fitted, allowing the surgeon to inflate the abdominal cavity for optimal single incision surgery.
Part of the LESS surgery system
The TriPort+ is part of Olympus’ LESS surgery system, a wide range of specific devices designed for single-incision surgery. In addition to latest products for LESS, Olympus has developed with leading surgeons, applying LESS already today an educational curriculum to help the surgeon incorporate reduced port surgery into the daily practice in a professional and efficient way.
