City & Travel

2020 has been a year like no other due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and restrictions that we’ve all faced and are still facing.  Having always enjoyed photographing urban spaces, I relish the challenge of taking photos in busy urban spaces, all over the world, waiting for a moment to capture the scene without any people in it.

When I was approached to shoot with the E-M10 Mark IV, I couldn’t wait because it came with its own set of challenges.  In the past I had been able to roam cities for hours, waiting for a scene to develop or for a single moment to have a stranger in frame for perspective.  On this occasion I would have to tailor my approach to my photography, maintain social distance and only shoot for a very limited amount of time.

As a key worker for the NHS (National Health Service), I still had to travel into London for work whilst the rest of the city was in lockdown. I used the walk home from work as my daily exercise and an opportunity to clear my head. I felt it was important to record how life had suddenly changed and try to make some sense of it all.

Over the last few years I have been fortunate enough to have travelled the world and can say without hesitation that the E-M10 series has been my most reliable and trusty companion.  The E-M10 Mark IV was no different with the reshaped grip immediately making the camera feel reassuringly comfortable in my hand.  When everything around you seems to be in constant and unpredictable flux, having the familiarity of the E-M10 Mark IV to take photos was a welcome distraction.

I’ve made the mistake in the past of travelling over 100 miles to visit a building to take photos only to discover that I had not charged my camera battery! I've learned from that mistake; however you can now charge the camera using a portable charger.  It’s just one less thing for me to worry about when I travel with my camera and I found it a handy addition.

Taking photos has always been exciting and has given me comfort.  I have found the E-M10 series and lenses to be reliable and produce quality images without holding me back.  Whenever I go out to take photos I like to travel as light as possible, and using the E-M10 Mark IV is perfect for someone like myself who is always on the go.
